It was held on the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> of April in 2017, at the Great Hall of the Hungarian Cultural Centre in London to mark the occasion of Hungarian Poetry Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO-1536x1022.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MEGNYITO.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisers\u2019 goal was to provide an opportunity for all age groups to introduce themselves and express their commitment to Hungarian literature. Amateur poetry and prose reciters aged 8 and over were eligible to apply. Participants were required to prepare two freely chosen poems or prose pieces from universal Hungarian literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The categories were established as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Children\u2019s Category:<\/strong>\u00a0ages 8\u201313<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Youth Category:<\/strong>\u00a0ages 14\u201319<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adult Category:<\/strong>\u00a0age 20 and above<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 53 people entered the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"724\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed-724x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1963\" style=\"width:724px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed-724x1024.webp 724w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed-212x300.webp 212w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed-768x1086.webp 768w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed-1086x1536.webp 1086w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PROGRAM-2017_Page_1_compressed.webp 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 724px) 100vw, 724px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day-long, sold-out event began at 10:30 AM. Main organiser&nbsp;<strong>Be\u00e1ta Verb\u00e1szi<\/strong>, founder of the Association of Hungarian Reciters in England, Radn\u00f3ti Award-winning performer, and Chair of the Jury, outlined the day\u2019s program and introduced the other members of the jury:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mil\u00e1n Horv\u00e1th<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Program Organiser at the Hungarian Cultural Centre in London, Head of the London Communication and Drama Workshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Katalin R\u00e1cz<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Actress and Dubbing Director<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>R\u00e9ka Rakitai<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Kazinczy Medalist secondary school teacher of Hungarian language and literature, speech development specialist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/438_compressed-1024x724.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/438_compressed-1024x724.webp 1024w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/438_compressed-300x212.webp 300w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/438_compressed-768x543.webp 768w, https:\/\/amve.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/438_compressed.webp 1169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the briefing, the Children\u2019s Category contestants took the stage: ten youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 presented their pieces. They were followed by three talented participants in the Youth Category. After a short break, the audience enjoyed the individual interpretations of twenty-five talented adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The excitement of the morning and early afternoon was followed by a reception while the jury&nbsp;deliberated to evaluate the performances.&nbsp;Given the exceptionally strong field, several adult contestants were asked to perform their second chosen piece to help the jury reach a final decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the formal awards ceremony, the audience enjoyed a memorable performance by artist&nbsp;<strong>J\u00falia Papp<\/strong>.
